Peenie Whelan’s unique medal collection

The Captain of the Carlow team that won the Leinster Senior Football Championship in 1944 was Peter ‘Peenie’ Whelan (Tinryland). Peenie captained Carlow to win the Leinster SFC on 30 July 1944, Tinryland to win the 1944 Carlow SFC and Leinster to win the Railway Cup on 17 March 1945 to record a unique achievement of captaining his club, county & province to win their respective championships in the space of a year.
