Carlow GAA & UPMC Partnership

In 2022, Carlow GAA and UPMC (University of Pittsburgh Medical Centre) entered into a partnership which resulted in Carlow GAA becoming a PRIORITY Health Partner of UPMC. This package not only gives Carlow GAA fast track access to required services such as diagnostics, treatment and rehabilitation, but also serves to reduce the overall medical costs to Carlow GAA whilst offering access to world class sports medicine, sports science and orthopedic services.

The opening of ‘UPMC Outreach Centre’ in Shamrock Plaza, Carlow, in 2022, expanded the UPMC medical network in Ireland which has been further enhanced by UPMC’s recent acquisition of the renowned Sports Surgery Clinic in Santry, to add to their existing facilities at:

  • UPMC Aut Even Hospital, Kilkenny;
  • UPMC Kildare Hospital, Clane;
  • UPMC Whitfield Hospital, Waterford; and,
  • UPMC Sports Medicine Clinics at SETU Arena Waterford, TUS Limerick and TUS Tipperary, which house dedicated sports medicine units supported by in-house Sports Physicians and Physiotherapy team.

UPMC offer Carlow GAA fast track access to any of their hospitals and clinics for Diagnostics, Imaging and Consultant services in Orthopedics, Cardiology and Respiratory as well as other services such as DEXA Scan, Sports Physician, Concussion Specialist Physicians and other medical services should they be required.

As an extension of our ongoing partnership, Carlow GAA were delighted to invite UPMC to become the official shirt sleeve sponsor of the Carlow matchday jersey and the initials UPMC are now displayed on the sleeves of both the traditional “home” and a new “alternative” white Carlow jersey.

Speaking at the launch of the new sleeve sponsorship on Monday 3 April, Carlow Chairperson, Jim Bolger, said: “I am delighted to further strengthen our relationship with UPMC through this sleeve sponsorship and I look forward to continuing to work with John Windle, Daithí De Róiste and the team at UPMC in the vital areas of injury diagnostics, treatment and rehabilitation. The speed of diagnosis that UPMC can offer is a real game changer – this will prove hugely beneficial to the welfare of our players which is most important.  I am also very happy with the design of the new “alternative” white jersey – the feedback from supporters, players and official sponsors has been very positive.”
