The JJ Kavanagh & Sons Senior Hurling Championship fizzes into action this weekend and after months of celebrating, soul searching or wound licking respectively our Senior Clubs are back for another tilt at the title.
St. Mullins as reigning champions will be eager to put last year’s success to bed and get on with the business of trying to hold onto their crown. This will not be an easy task as you can be sure the likes of MLR and Naomh Eoin will have been stung badly by how their 2014 season ended and will be more than willing to administer retribution !
As their footballing exploits and recent Kilkenny Lge. win have proven, Rangers are fit, strong and hungry again. The men from Myshall too have endured a harsh winter after last year’s County Final which must be still very clear in their minds. A change of management may have lessened the bitter taste but you can be sure they will be live contenders again.
Ballinkillen, Erins Own and Naomh Brid will all pose their own varying degrees of difficulty for the ‘top 3’ but as to which will do most damage at this stage is hard to tell. The derby games will tell the Carlow public a lot more about how this Championship will play out but write off the Superbowl fraternity at your peril as they have shown time and again over the years.
Plenty of our County stars on show, young guns emerging on the scene eager to catch Pat English’s attention and all the thrills and spills usually associated with the real ‘beautiful game’ make this weekend well worth making the trip to headquarters !
